Stubborn tooth staining or discoloration that doesn’t respond to whitening.
Chipped or worn teeth that make your smile look uneven.
Gaps between your front teeth (diastema) that you’d like closed.
Mildly crooked or misshapen teeth (veneers can visually straighten and correct without braces in some cases).
Teeth that are too small or not proportionate to your smile.
Many patients consult with our cosmetic dentist Dr Emile Medawar to decide which veneer option suits them. If longevity and ultra-natural aesthetics are the priority, porcelain (especially high-strength brands like E-max veneers) might be recommended. If minimal tooth alteration and cost are bigger concerns, composite or no-prep veneers might be your best bet.

Consultation and Smile Design Lebanon: You’ll discuss your goals and the dentist will examine your teeth. Feel free to bring photos of smiles you admire! Dentists often take impressions or do a digital scan of your teeth at this stage. They may also show you a digital preview or create a wax-up model so you can visualize the outcome. Together, you’ll pick the shade and shape for your new smile – whether you want a very bright “Hollywood” look or a more natural shade.
Tooth Preparation: For traditional porcelain veneers, a very small amount of enamel (usually about 0.5 mm or less) is trimmed from the front of the teeth. This is to make space for the veneer so the teeth don’t end up looking or feeling bulky. Thanks to advanced techniques, this process is minimal and often doesn’t even require anesthesia (though it’s available if you’re sensitive). However, there are no-prep veneers options (like Lumineers) that require little to no enamel removal – these are ultra-thin veneers that can often be placed without drilling. If you’re a candidate for no-prep veneers (which work best if your teeth are not too crowded or dark), you could avoid any drilling and shots entirely.
Impressions and Temporary Veneers: After prep, the dentist will take impressions of your trimmed teeth and send these to a dental lab to fabricate your veneers (unless using in-office milling like CEREC). It takes about 1-2 weeks for custom porcelain veneers to be made. Meanwhile, you may be given temporary veneers to wear – these are usually acrylic and will protect your teeth and give a preview of the final look.
Veneer Bonding: Once your gorgeous new porcelain veneers are ready, you return for the placement. The dentist will first put the veneers on your teeth without adhesive to check the fit and appearance. You’ll get to preview and approve the look. Adjustments to color or shape can still be made at this stage if necessary. Then, the veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth using a special resin cement. A curing light hardens the cement, and voila – your veneers are fixed in place. The dentist will make final tweaks, polish them, and check your bite. You can walk out with your brand-new smile immediately after!
For composite veneers, the process is shorter – often done in one visit. The dentist will etch the tooth surface, apply bonding agent, and artistically layer the composite resin directly onto your teeth, sculpting it to the desired shape. A light hardens the material and it’s polished to shine like a natural tooth. Composite bonding can also be used as a temporary trial for porcelain veneers to let you “test drive” a new smile.

After investing in your dream smile, you’ll want to maintain it. The good news is veneers don’t require special care beyond good oral hygiene. Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste, floss gently around your veneers, and visit your dentist for regular cleanings. While porcelain veneers resist stains, it’s wise to minimize very staining habits (like excessive coffee or tobacco use) to keep them brilliant for longer. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth at night, we highly recommend a night guard to protect your veneers (and your other teeth) from excessive forces – grinding can damage veneers over time. Also, avoid using your teeth as tools (to open bottles or packages) and be cautious biting very hard foods like ice – these habits can crack natural teeth and veneers alike. With proper care, you’ll enjoy your new smile for many years before any maintenance is needed.
